The Time Between… (Writing 101 – Prompt 2)

Day Two of Writing 101 and today I’ve been asked to write about what place to I would go to right now if I had the chance. The answer is Melbourne. The answer being as simple as the question.

Melbourne, is a city in my country. It is ten hours away from where I live and is the current place I want to go to for University in two years. It has heart, soul, friendly people, shopping and good food. It is also where they hold Fashion Shows, The Annual Melbourne Cup, Comedy Festival, just to name a few.

You see, I went to Melbourne for a few days with my family at the beginning of 2014 just to get away for a few days over the Christmas Holidays. The ride down was good, with the number of hours being the only thing doing my head in. I got to go to very good towns which was one of my highlights for the trip.

When I got there, the whole city wasn’t this picturesque, relaxed idea that you may think would be suited for a vacation. It was quite the opposite, it had trams, a lot of people, tall buildings etc. Now, you’d have to wonder why a person would find a place like this grand especially for a holiday. The answer is that even with all the hustle and bustle that was rallying around me everyday I found it relaxing and invigorating because it wasn’t like all the other towns we had stopped at on the way there. Plus, I had managed to find a sense of beauty in what was around me.

I guess that’s why Melbourne is perfect for a person like me, the constant yet ever-changing pace of the city just takes your breath away and you get immersed in a world of your own. I think that it captures the perfect cross between high school and my future career quite perfectly. Like Melbourne just being one milestone out of many, the piece of a puzzle that I still have yet to make sense of.

So, at the end of the day my dream isn’t just centred around my career anymore. It now branches off into the dream of a place, for a person both yet to be discovered.

I know that the journey to get there will be gruelling and that it won’t be easy. It’s going to take my blood, sweat and tears to get me over the finish line but that’s what will make it all worth it.

After all, it wouldn’t be a story otherwise 🙂

P.S. This is NOT a photo of Melbourne.

  1. What a lovely piece. I really like the line ‘Like Melbourne just being one milestone out of many, the piece of a puzzle that I still have yet to make sense of’ – it tells me a lot about where you are in your life at the moment and I feel like I have gotten to know a bit about you :). Nice start to the course!

  2. I agree with More Than. I understand your feelings, Ainswordly, too. I also felt my future pulling at me from a place and I eventually made it there. I hope your journey will be easier than mine was. But the end result is worth it. Hang in there.

    1. Thank you so much! I will definitely hang in there as I do believe that the end result will be worth it. Even if my journey is tougher than expected I wouldn’t mind as long as I get to the end 🙂 I’m really curious to hear about your journey.

      1. My story would scare most. I don’t want that. You make your way and keep the faith. Happy endings count! But you’re welcome to my blog! Most of my posts either represent a step to where I am now, or they’re about where I am now. https://awritershelper.wordpress.com/2015/04/07/writing-101-day-2/ 🙂
